The Artist's Voice: William Kentridge
The work of international and multidisciplinary artist William Kentridge returns to the ICA with KABOOM! This multimedia installation addresses the tension and impact brought upon by colonialism in South Africa, as seen through the participation of millions of African porters in World War I. Speaking from his studio in Johannesburg, the artist remarks on the making of this all-encompassing work of art and its ties to the "The Head & the Load," his electrifying staged performance work described as “a fiercely beautiful historical pageant of music, movement, and shadow play” (New York Times). The ICA’s Ellen Matilda Poss Director Jill Medvedow introduces this program. "William Kentridge: KABOOM!" is organized by Jeffrey De Blois, Assistant Curator and Publications Manager, with Anni Pullagura, Curatorial Assistant.
