Pali is a Middle Indo-Aryan liturgical language on the Indian subcontinent. It is widely studied because it is the language of the Buddhist Pāli Canon or Tipiṭaka as well as the sacred language of Theravāda Buddhism. As a literary language, Pali faded out in India in about the 14th century, but was still evident elsewhere until the 18th century. Today, Pali is chanted as part of Buddhist rituals and is studied in order to read and understand Buddhist scriptures. If you are interested to see your native language/dialect be featured here. Submit your recordings to [email protected]. Looking forward to hearing from you!
