The Church May Obtain Another Major Historic Site... (Joseph Smith's Hidden Prophecy)

THIS MAY BE ONE OF THE CLEAREST WITNESSES THAT JOSEPH SMITH WAS A PROPHET OF GOD… 🏔️❄️ Just days before Pioneer Day, a remarkable development is gaining momentum in Wyoming. After decades of controversy, temporary agreements, and resistance, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints may finally receive permanent stewardship over Martin’s Cove—one of the most sacred and tragic locations in the entire pioneer story. On the surface, this appears to be a land exchange involving the Church and the federal government. But hidden beneath the headline is a prophetic connection that changes the meaning of Martin’s Cove completely. Fourteen years before the Martin handcart company became trapped in the frozen Wyoming wilderness, Joseph Smith made a detailed prophecy about the future of the Saints. He spoke of where they would be driven, what they would suffer along the way, and what they would eventually become in the Rocky Mountains. Some of his language is disturbingly specific. Critics frequently point to the early Saints’ expulsion from Missouri and argue that Joseph Smith’s revelations concerning Zion and the New Jerusalem failed. But Joseph’s later prophecy reveals that the western migration was not simply an emergency plan created by Brigham Young after Joseph’s death. Joseph Smith had already seen another chapter coming. According to later pioneer recollections, Joseph even discussed the route the Saints would follow into the West and reportedly used chalk to illustrate the Great Basin and their future journey. Then, after Joseph’s death, Brigham Young led the Saints directly into the future Joseph had described. Joseph foresaw the journey. Brigham led it. Joseph said the Saints would build settlements and cities in the Rocky Mountains. Under Brigham Young, they did exactly that. But the most remarkable part of the story may have occurred in October 1856. Brigham Young received troubling—but incomplete—reports that more than a thousand Latter-day Saint emigrants were still hundreds of miles away on the plains. Some may have been nearly 700 miles from Salt Lake City. The weather in the valley was still warm and clear. The catastrophic storm that would trap the handcart companies had not yet arrived. Brigham could have waited for more information. He refused. He told the Saints that the Holy Ghost was directing him to save the people and declared that he would not wait until tomorrow—or even the next day—to begin organizing the rescue. Wagons, food, clothing, animals, and experienced men were gathered immediately. The rescuers began traveling east while the sky over Salt Lake City remained clear. Then the storm struck. 🌨️ By the time the disaster became visible, the rescuers were already on the plains. Had Brigham waited until a messenger returned with news of the blizzard, the information would have taken days or even weeks to reach Salt Lake City. The rescuers would then still have needed to travel hundreds of miles through worsening winter conditions. For many of the pioneers, help would have arrived too late. The prophetic significance is not that Brigham Young announced a supernatural weather forecast. It is that the warning came early enough for the rescuers to be where they were needed when the crisis arrived.
