The statues of Santa Lucía Hill were stolen, and no one noticed for over 100 years. In 1874, Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna inaugurated the promenade with 40 statues and 300 vases brought from France. Today, only 30 and 87 remain. Where is everything else? In this chapter, I investigated the thefts, abandonments, and mysteries that have marked the history of Santa Lucía Hill: the life-size horse that disappeared without a trace, the monumental statue of the nymph Amalthea that ended up in private hands, the Castillo Hidalgo, closed for over a decade, the hill's only elevator, out of service since 2016, the bell that survived one of the greatest tragedies in Chilean history, and the statue that has lived for 150 years with an identity that doesn't belong to it. All of this happened in one of Santiago's most visited places. Right in front of everyone.
