The story is about Stanley Vejtasa, an American naval aviator during World War II. The focus of the action is his incredible combat career, which began in the skies over the Coral Sea. Piloting a slow-dive SBD Dauntless bomber, he entered combat with superior forces of Japanese Zero fighters. Using an unconventional tactic of head-on attacks, Vejtasa managed to shoot down three enemy fighters, something considered impossible for an aircraft of his class. This heroic feat led to his transfer to fighter aviation. During the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, already at the helm of an F4F Wildcat fighter, he achieved an even more remarkable feat. In a single mission, Vejtasa destroyed seven Japanese aircraft, single-handedly thwarting a torpedo attack on the aircraft carrier Enterprise and effectively saving the ship from destruction. Despite being recommended for the highest military award, the Medal of Honor, due to intrigues from the general staff he was awarded the Navy Cross.
