He opens by noting that unlike other universities where extensive scientific evidence must first be presented to persuade skeptical audiences, here in Thailand — where 97-98% of people are Buddhist and children grow up with an intuitive understanding of samsara — it is possible to begin directly with Buddhist principles. The lecture is organized around two topics: decoding the codes of samsara, and wisdom at life's end. On dependent origination, Khenpo distinguishes external dependent origination — the causal chain through which seeds produce sprouts, sprouts produce roots and fruit — from inner dependent origination, which governs how each sentient being wanders through samsara: human today, animal tomorrow, celestial being after that, cycling continuously until liberation is attained. He then presents the twelve links of dependent origination in sequential order: ignorance and formations as the preceding causes of this birth; consciousness, name-and-form, six sense bases, contact, and feeling as the ripened results of past life manifesting in this life; and craving, grasping, and becoming as the three links in this life that create the causes for the next life. After birth come aging and death, which serve as conditions for the next cycle. He cites Nobel Prize laureate Dr. John Eccles (1963) who concluded from a medical perspective that after the physical body completely dies, a non-material consciousness remains and does not perish, and philosopher Schopenhauer who similarly argued that the self does not simply vanish at death. Khenpo praises Thailand's Buddhist culture: people with peaceful minds, universal respect for monastics, end-of-life care practices that are rare in non-Buddhist countries. He notes that all three streams of Buddhism — Theravada, Mahayana, and Tibetan — share the same essential teaching on the twelve links. He concludes by explaining that the code of samsara is unlocked by cultivating the wisdom of selflessness and emptiness, without which fundamental ignorance cannot be eliminated. The lecture ends with a collective aspiration: recognize the rarity of human birth, stop wandering in samsara life after life, and diligently cultivate toward liberation.
