I chose a bright and colorful circus orchestral sound as the main genre, building the arrangement in layers. The surface sounds bright and theatrical, but underneath it, I designed the ongoing tension and sense of panic to coexist with the vocal. Through DAW and plug-in based mixing and mastering, I spent the most time balancing the orchestral layers so they would not cover the vocal presence. Pizzicato strings, muted brass stabs, and a slightly detuned music box motif are layered to keep the tension alive beneath the whimsy.
