WONHO BROKE THROUGH EVERY LAYER ON CORE | First Reaction
Reacting to WONHO - CORE, and this project felt like he was peeling away every layer of himself one track at a time. It gave us confidence, desire, longing, summer nostalgia, explosive dance energy, smoother R&B moments, and genuine comfort, but honesty was the thread connecting everything together. WONHO is not presenting only one version of himself. We hear the confident performer, the person who wants to escape reality, the romantic, the artist carrying memories and longing, and the comforting voice promising that somebody does not have to struggle alone. “Answer” opened the project with an addictive groove and immediately brought us into WONHO’s smoother, more seductive side. His vocal delivery fits this kind of R&B and electronic production so naturally, and it created a strong entrance without revealing everything the EP had planned. “Don’t Wake Me Up!” completely changed the scale. The heavy beat, repetitive hook, and explosive energy made it feel designed for a huge performance. The idea of preferring the dream over reality also fits the album’s larger theme because sometimes escaping into another world feels easier than confronting what is underneath the surface. “Can’t Get Enough” brought more longing into the project. Beneath the attraction and desire, there is an emotional hunger that makes the song feel deeper than a straightforward love track. WONHO’s voice carries that tension between confidence and need extremely well. “Summer Blue” became one of the most meaningful moments for me. It sounds refreshing and warm, but there is also nostalgia beneath the brightness. “Down” brought the house energy and immediately made the EP feel ready for a live stage. It is energetic, addictive, and built around movement, but it still fits the project’s emotional journey rather than feeling like a random dance track. “Test Drive” gave us another smooth switch with its pop-R&B sound. The song captures the excitement and uncertainty of exploring a new connection, and its lighter romantic energy gave the final stretch of the project a different color. Then “Promises” with Brother Su closed everything through warmth and reassurance. After an EP about breaking through emotional protection and facing the person underneath, ending with comfort felt perfect. It leaves us with the feeling that vulnerability does not have to mean facing everything alone. Overall, CORE showed both the performer everyone recognizes and the more vulnerable person beneath that image. It was energetic, personal, smooth, emotional, and extremely cohesive. WONHO did not simply show us another side of himself. He took away the layers until we reached the center. 🎯 Want to Request a Track?
