Antonio Nestor Álvarez Pitaluga, a Cuban historian, former vice dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and History at the University of Havana, and currently a professor at the National University of Costa Rica, is an expert on 19th-century Cuban history and Cuban cinema. He is the author of "La familia de Máximo Gómez" (2008) and "Revolution, Hegemony and Power. Cuba 1895-1898" (2012). This latter work, previously unpublished in Italian, constituted a groundbreaking study of the Cuban struggle for independence during the crucial years of the last war against Spain.
