This season, the first prototypes of the new Versa were in practical use. This first mechanical box seed drill from Horsch, like the pneumatic Express, is mounted on the Kredo rotary harrow. The comfortable access and wide platform lead to the 900-liter tank. After unlocking with the universal key, the sturdy grids can be folded up. The individually mounted metering units are driven by an electric motor and countershaft and can be removed without tools. The standard and fine seed wheel can then be easily removed – ideal if special shapes are required or if the seed wheels are defective. And installing the metering unit and cover is just as easy as removing it. Switching between fine and standard seeding is done with the seed sliders. The highlight is changing the tramline rows. Simply pull the spacer clip, move the drive, and reinsert the clip. This simple method allows all rows to be individually selected as tramline rows. Horsch also focused on ease of use when calibrating, as the calibration bag holder shows. For series production, Horsch plans to manufacture the calibration trays from lighter plastic and improve their guidance. For the actual calibration, simply adjust the guide flap in the metering units and control the electric motor via a button. The weighed calibration quantity is then simply entered into the terminal or the MobilControl smartphone app. To adjust the seeding depth and coulter pressure, you use the universal key again and insert it into the appropriate shaft, which is conveniently locked. The scales are already permanent at this prototype stage, but still a bit too far apart. Horsch wants to change that and also clearly label the two shafts. Thanks to ISO-bus, the corresponding tractor terminal can be used to monitor the Versa, as shown here on the Fendt Vario. For seed embedding, Horsch relies on the TurboDisc double disc coulter, guided by pressure rollers, which, however, is hinged by a leaf spring to optimize weight. All in all, the Horsch Versa is impressive even in the prototype stage. Above all, the ingenious drive of the metering wheels with free selection of tramline rows sets standards. After a pre-production run next year, sales are planned for fall/winter 2021.
