Roderick Williams- Ave verum corpus Re-imagined
Roderick Williams- Ave verum corpus Re-imagined (A reflection on William Byrd- Ave verum corpus). Commissioned and performed by ORA Singers & Suzi Digby. Recorded at St Alban's, Holborn, February 2015. From the album 'Upheld by Stillness: Renaissance Gems and their Reflections'- released 12th February, 2016 with harmonia mundi. "William Byrd's Ave verum corpus is a piece that I have known since my days as a treble chorister and I grew up in awe of its carefully measured harmony and effortless counterpoint. Like any choral singer, I have my favourite moments within the piece - the scrunching false relations, the question and answer exclamations, the mournful coda - and so I sought to write a piece that would focus specifically on these highlights and expand upon them. Its composition is an act of homage to a masterful composer."- Roderick Williams Text: Ave verum corpus, natum de Maria Virgine: Vere passum immolatum in cruce pro homine, Cuius latus perforatum unda fluxit sanguine: Est nobis praegustatum in mortis examine. O dulcis, O pie, O Jesu, Fili Mariae miserere mei. Amen. Hail true body, born of the Virgin Mary, truly killed, sacrificed, on the cross for mankind. Whose pierced side flowed with a tide of blood. The one first put to the test for us, in the trial of death. Gentle, holy Jesus, Son of Mary, have mercy on me. Amen. Full album listing: 1. Super flumina Babylonis- Philippe De Monte (4'46) 2.
