Dhanyasi Raga Alapana | Vivek Sadasivam
Raga alapanas are an integral part of any Carnatic music concert. They are meant to give the listener a taste of the raga - the more detailed they are, the more phrases and groupings of notes comprising the raga are brought out by the performer. This is generally followed by rendition of a kriti in the same raga. According to me, in vocal music, alapanas are one of the most key features of South Indian classical music and allow for a leisurely exploration. Listen to a recent raga exploration in Dhanyasi, one that I really enjoyed presenting along with dear friend Vittal Rangan on the violin, as part of a concert for Naada Inbam, Mylapore.
