For every additional boss scheduled to appear, the boss will spawn later by 2 seconds. And before a boss appears, if you make zero the number of zombies at the proper moment, the next wave will start without spawning boss in that wave. Bosses that have not been spawned in the previous wave can be spawned together in the next wave. The right moment to delay the appearance of a boss that I've figured out through trial and error is after the wave starts, the time as long as 'number of bosses scheduled to appear in that wave ×2 - 1.5 seconds'. I guess this is an in-game glitch.
