Gianna Wemmer was only 16 years old when she lost her mother to suicide. When she wasn't at the breakfast table with them one morning, the family already suspected something must have happened. An extensive search was launched, but Gianna's mother remained missing. The medication she needed to take for pain following surgery was also gone. At that point, everyone realized the gravity of the situation. Gianna's father contacted the police and emergency services, but it was too late. By the time they found her, Gianna's mother was already dead. For the then 16-year-old, a difficult process of coming to terms with the loss began, filled with grief, anger, and incomprehension. But it wouldn't be the last tragedy to befall the family.
