INFOFISH Technological Innovation Series 2021: Sustainable Aquaculture Technologies

The irruption of new and emerging technologies such as high-resolution satellite imagery, the Automatic Identification System (AIS), cameras and in situ sensors, DNA and genetic profiling, blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning is likely to significantly affect the established data supply chain and disrupt the sector’s management in the short-to-medium term (SOFIA 2020). The contribution of aquaculture from the Asia Pacific Region is extremely high. In every sphere of aquaculture value chains (farm to fork) innovation is anticipated to ensure the sustainable production, traceable management, and identical distribution of the quality protein for all (irrespective of age, gender and region).
