UNBECOMING | Official Music Video
Unbecoming is a song expressing the deep journey of waking from the slumber of societal conditioning to our true state of infinite consciousness. As we step into our intrinsic nature, the process feels maddening. In this freedom, we realize both our true power and the responsibility we have for the consequences all of our actions, both harmless and harmful. A major aspect of this song speaks to the weight of sexual violence upon the perpetrator’s soul. These devastating acts most often are left unpunished, leaving those it was enacted upon, to suffer with no justice or reparation. The consequence however belongs to the predator, a debt which will eventually be paid in full. Willingly or unwillingly. For Knightress, Unbecoming is significant as the first song arranged together after Emily reformed the band in Paris. Though written earlier in California, it brought the band's sound and synergy to fruition through its quick arrangement and recording with Francis Caste at Studio Sainte-Marthe. Musically, the song represents the bands unapologetically heavy nature and spacious arrangements, creating space for the violin and voice to rise above their unshakeable foundation. This sound exemplifies Emily's vision to balance the intensity of metal with the beauty and depth of her classical training, informing and alchemizing a typically male genre with the depth and experience of the feminine aspect. Unbecoming stands as a powerful example of Knightress’ call for sovereignty, accountability, and creative evolution.
