Friday, January 13, 2023 - Coming up, we speak with the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas’ newly elected second chief. And we introduce you to the winner of the 2022 Joy Harjo prize. Plus, the director of Language for the Citizen Potawatomi Nation joins us. For the first time, a woman was elected second chief of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas. Millie Thompson Williams talked with us about her historic victory. Kinsale Drake, Diné, writes poetry, plays, and loves to perform. The Yale University grad has had her work appear in places like Teen Vogue and Time Magazine. The recent winner of the Joy Harjo Poetry prize spoke to us about her work. Many tribes are turning to technology to teach and retain their language. The Citizen Potawatomi Nation recently partnered with Google and the new app Woolaroo for such efforts. Justin Neely, the director of Language for the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, joins us to talk more about the initiative.
