The Royal Navys Thursday War, Portland, 1985
Sorry about the quality of the video, it was taken from an old VHS tape. For many years Portland, Dorset was the scene of a weekly War, usually on a Thursday, and controlled under the auspices of The Royal Navy's Flag Officer Sea Training. The objective...to ensure Ships and their crews were Trained to handle any scenario they may encounter. Fun it wasn't! This BBC documentary focuses on HMS Newcastle's passage through the training. Portland Naval base is now closed, with the training carried out in the Plymouth Area.
