Vienna knows how to do romance and it doesn't apologize for it. The Stadtpark is the park with the most monuments in the city — Johann Strauss II in gold with his violin, probably the most photographed statue in Vienna, Franz Schubert sitting nearby, and a bust of Andreas Zelinka, the former mayor who actually commissioned the park in the first place, sitting quietly on the only hill. A little lake, winding paths, flowers — the whole thing. Exited the park past the MAK and die Angewandte — one of Vienna's art universities — then the Urania, Vienna's oldest public observatory and planetarium, and ended at Hermanns Strandbar on the Donaukanal. Which is exactly what it sounds like: a sandy beach bar with deck chairs and cold drinks in the middle of the city, for all the Viennese who want an afterwork holiday feeling without the flight.
