You Are an Octopus — You Have 3 Hearts and You're Still Lonely

You are not watching an octopus. You are one. Right now, you have 9 brains one in your head, and one in each of your 8 arms. They don't always agree. Your arm found food before you did. It tasted it, decided it was safe, and started eating before a single signal reached your head. You have 3 hearts. Blue blood. No skeleton. You can pour yourself through any gap wider than your beak the only hard thing left in you. You can change your color, texture, and pattern in under a second. You can taste with your skin, see in near-total darkness, and become completely invisible against any surface on earth. You are colorblind. And yet you match colors with terrifying accuracy. Nobody knows how. Not even you. You will live for two years. That is all. Not because something kills you but because your own body is designed to end itself. After laying eggs, your optic glands flood your system with hormones that begin a programmed self-destruction. You stop eating. You decay. You keep guarding your eggs anyway until the very end. You were never taught anything. You never met your mother. Everything you became, you figured out alone. That is extraordinary. It is also, in a way that is hard to explain, desperately sad. This is what it feels like to be an octopus. —————————————————————————— BE The Animal — you are not watching the animal. You are the animal. New videos every week.
