UMA FAZENDA A MODA ANTIGA

We visited Fazenda Florença in Conservatória, Rio de Janeiro, which was founded by the Teixeira Leite clan, of Portuguese origin. Coming from Minas Gerais, they were drawn to the Paraíba Valley by the wealth of coffee in the 19th century. The Barons of Itambé and Vassouras were considered the most renowned members of the family, which established farms in places like Conservatória, Rio das Flores, Barra Mansa, and Valença. The current main house was built in 1852 and features an imposing porch, of Italian influence, topped by a pediment supported by carved wooden columns. The construction was built on a stone base and peroba wood flooring, and has neoclassical details. Inside the manor, we took a journey through time in the form of original 19th-century objects, such as walking sticks, top hats, porcelain, and others.
