Why The Man Behind Maverick City Music Allegedly Stole From The Artist The Church Trusted Most
Every Sunday morning millions of people sing Maverick City Music in their churches. They lift their hands to Jireh. They close their eyes during Promises. They trust that the music filling their sanctuaries comes from a place of genuine worship and authentic community. What they were never told is what was allegedly happening behind those songs. Chandler Moore was the defining voice of Maverick City Music. Five Grammy Awards. Sold out arenas across America. The most streamed worship collective in history. For a man who had spent years releasing music nobody listened to, Maverick City was not just an opportunity — it was the first place his voice had ever truly belonged. He called it his heart. In November 2023 at the peak of his career Chandler quietly checked himself into inpatient rehabilitation for 40 days without saying a word publicly. While he was gone his music played in churches every Sunday morning. He was processing something deeply personal — and when he came back he kept writing, kept touring, and kept trusting the institution he had given everything to. On October 1 2025 he filed a 33-page federal lawsuit in US District Court Atlanta against CEO Norman Gyamfi, Maverick City Music, and TRIBL Records. The allegations: Gyamfi forged his signature on contracts. Secretly sold his master recordings to Sony without telling him. Redirected his songwriting royalties away from him directly to Maverick City. And withheld over 800,000 dollars in royalties after Chandler fulfilled every obligation of his final contract. Two months before the lawsuit Gyamfi had gone on a podcast and declared traditional gospel dead, described his strategy as deliberately removing Black gospel elements to appeal to white consumers, and compared himself to Justin Bieber's manager. He measured the value of worship music in Spotify streams and touring revenue. Chandler Moore left five days after filing. Naomi Raine left the same week. Before them Dante Bowe, Joe L. Barnes, and Aaron Moses had all departed. The two voices that defined Maverick City are gone. The lawsuit is still active. No verdict has been reached. These are allegations not conclusions. But the question this video asks is one the church deserves an answer to — if the institution behind the most trusted worship music in America was allegedly built on exploitation and financial betrayal, what exactly has the church been singing? 🔔 Subscribe for weekly investigations into the institutions, the empires, and the truth behind the pulpit. ⬇️ Tell us in the comments — does knowing what is alleged behind these songs change how you hear them on Sunday morning
