As a punishment, he was thrown into Taishang Laojun’s alchemy furnace and burned for 49 days. 49 days later, Sun Wukong broke out of the furnace and obtained a pair of Fiery Golden Eyes from the ordeal. He kicked Taishang Laojun's furnace down into the mortal world and ignited a sea of fire. 500 years later, Sun Wukong followed Tang Sanzang to retrieve Buddhist scriptures from the West. They passed by the Volcano, where the fire burns for more than 800 li. In Village Ganlin, right by the foot of the mountain, villagers had always suffered from the harsh conditions brought by the sweltering mountain. At the request of the villagers, Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie set out to the cave-dwelling of the Two Sages of the Volcano, planning to acquire the Banana Leaf Fan to extinguish the flames. A girl from the village, Yan Ling'er, secretly followed them. Soon the three reached the rumored cave of the two sages. They tried to sneak in and steal the Banana Leaf Fan but realized that the two sages are in fact Sun Wukong's old acquaintances, the Bull Demon King and Princess Iron Fan...
