The derailed train broke through the railway's protective fence and crashed into a residential area. In response to this accident, JR West reviewed its safety management system and implemented a number of measures to prevent recurrence, including strengthening driver training and education and introducing a speed control system. The accident has also prompted railway operators across Japan to review their safety measures and work to improve railway safety. It has become clear that the cause of the accident was a combination of multiple factors, including the driver exceeding the speed limit, strict timetable management and excessive pressure on drivers, and inadequate safety management systems.
