The perfect Dragon Had Hidden Flaws… Meet CreamAudio Analyzer!
Today’s project is a technician's dream: a visually stunning Nakamichi Dragon with absolutely zero head and mechanical wear. It looks like it just stepped out of a time capsule from 1983. However, time is an undefeated enemy. Despite its flawless mechanical condition, the electronics told a very different story. Decades of sitting caused multiple critical electronic components to age and drift, severely impacting the deck's performance. ⚡ The Electronic Restoration: To bring this zero-wear masterpiece back to absolute perfection, I had to hunt down several classic 80s component failures: Analog Switch Upgrades: Replaced the notoriously leaky and distortion-prone 4066 CMOS analog switches in the signal path with modern, high-grade replacements. The "Orange Disease" Cure: Isolated and replaced the failing orange polypropylene capacitors in the bias circuitry that cause instability and dropouts. 💻 Introducing CreamAudio Analyzer! But that's not all. This video marks a massive milestone for the channel. I am incredibly proud to introduce my brand new software designed specifically for high-precision sound measurement and audio equipment tuning: CreamAudio Analyzer! I built this macOS/iOS application from the ground up to handle the exact real-world, high-precision measurements we need on the bench. You'll see it in action during this video as I use it to benchmark, calibrate, and verify the final performance sweeps of this restored Dragon. 🔧 What You’ll See in This Video: Inspecting a immaculate, zero-wear Nakamichi Dragon. Component-level troubleshooting of the bias and switching circuits. Desoldering and replacing the 4066 switches and orange capacitors. The Launch: A first-look walkthrough of CreamAudio Analyzer and its UI. Final calibration testing using the new software. 📌 This is a huge step forward for the channel! If you're excited about the new software, please hit that like button, subscribe, and download/check out the app to support my work! 🔍 Tags: #NakamichiDragon #CreamAudioAnalyzer #AudioSoftware #AudioRestoration #Nakamichi #CassetteDeck #ElectronicsRepair #4066Switch #OrangeCapacitors #HiFiTuning #Hifirulezzz #SoundMeasurement #AnalogAudio
