Romanian taxi drivers protest against Uber

(13 Feb 2019) Hundreds of taxi drivers blocked the streets in Bucharest on Wednesday, demanding that companies such as Uber, Taxify and similar transport services were banned. Many of the drivers argued that the services were illegal and that they do not pay their taxes.   Alexandru Preda, one of the protesting taxi drivers said that taxi phone apps like Uber and Taxify steal his clients. Another driver, Grecea Cristian says that he spends 10 -12 hours driving his cab a day, but he and other drivers "don't make enough money to take home to our families, all because of the people that are offering illegal transportation". "We can no longer work like this" he added. Similar protests were organised on Wednesday in several cities across Romania.
