What Is a Langstroth Hive?

Are you curious about the most popular bee hive design in America? In this video, we explain the unique features and benefits of the Langstroth hive. Invented in 1852, this design uses stacking rectangular boxes filled with frames. We build our Langstroth hives using our beautiful comb joint, which creates a stronger box and extends the life of the wood. You can choose to build your hive in sustainable Western Red Cedar or Sugar Pine. You can customize your apiary by choosing from shallow, medium, or deep boxes in eight or ten frame widths. Keep in mind that a deep box full of honey can weigh up to one hundred pounds. These hives also include an inner cover for feeding, a telescoping roof for rain protection, and optional viewing windows. Because this is the most common hive style, it is very easy to find local mentors and extra accessories to fit your exact needs. If you are ready to start natural beekeeping, we have all the equipment you need.
