ABC Radio Perth - JarrahCelts at History House Music in the Museum

The JarrahCelts are a Western Australian Celtic band from Roleystone in the Perth Hills. The band performs Australian Celtic music - a blend of Celtic traditions, Australian stories and roots music, featuring Irish woodwinds, fiddle, guitar, upright bass and foot percussion. Expect lively jigs and reels, traditional tunes, original songs and storytelling ballads. The performers with this special Museum concert on 10th July 2026 were Chris Horgan, Jane Slater, Dave Cooper, Jacob Horgan and Bob Hart. MUSIC IN THE MUSEUM The City of Armadale’s History House Museum is celebrating 50 years, and as part of the celebrations The JarrahCelts were invited to help bring some of the museum’s historic musical instruments back to life. ABC Radio reporter Ash Davis visited History House and spoke with curator Christen Bell about the museum’s musical instrument collection and the sold-out Music in the Museum concert. The collection includes a wooden flute once played by Lois Adelaide Turner, Mrs Laura Dumsday’s fife, a banjo connected to the musical Green family, the Dumsday family piano, a locally made harpsichord, a Klotz violin played by talented Roleystone musician Mabel Ruth Bettenay (nee Parker), and a Brady drum. Many of these instruments had not been regularly heard for decades. In this radio story, Christen shares some of the history behind the instruments and the local families who once played them. The music heard throughout features Chris Horgan from The JarrahCelts playing historical instruments from the History House collection in preparation for the concert. Music in the Museum was held inside History House Museum as part of the museum’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
