But scientists searched for deformed quartz, molten rock, iridium, and other clear signs of a cosmic collision. They found none of it. The famous "Eye of the Sahara" is not an impact crater. Its perfect shape was created by a much slower and more complex process: magma lifted ancient rock layers into a massive dome.
