That’s why I wanted to sit down with Carole Hooven, an evolutionary biologist who spent 20 years at Harvard teaching hormones, behavior, and evolutionary psychology before she was pushed out for stating precisely that. She draws a distinction almost nobody in public debate seems capable of holding anymore: Sex itself is binary, but sex-associated traits form overlapping distributions. Confusing those two ideas is what produces so much intellectual chaos and so much institutional cowardice.
