In Soviet times, the war was long forgotten, so, thanks to Tvardovsky, the title "unknown war" stuck to it. And in post-Soviet times, the Winter War has come to be considered a shameful episode in Russian history, a war in which, thanks to Stalin's ambitions, hundreds of thousands of Soviet soldiers' lives were wasted.
