Sons of security guard killed in San Diego mosque shooting remember 'best dad you can ask for'

Grieving sons of Amin Abdullah, a security guard killed while protecting others at the Islamic Center of San Diego, said he was their hero and "best dad to ask for" in an interview with Reuters at their family home on Wednesday. Abdullah’s sons - Jibreel, 21, Muhammad, 28, and Khaled, 24 - stood together greeting visitors and accepting condolences, describing their father as a man defined by service, kindness and faith. “When I learned about it… I couldn’t believe it. It didn’t feel real,” said Muhammad Amin Abdullah. “But when I learned that his actions saved all the kids… I felt proud, and I felt comfort, because I know that’s exactly how my dad would have wanted to go out - protecting people.” Khaled Amin Abdullah said his father had been both a parent and a close friend, offering guidance on life, faith and responsibility. “He always advised us… reminding us about our faith and trying to help us succeed,” he said. “We were very close.” Khaled said the family has taken comfort in the manner of their father’s death, describing his actions as selfless. “The fact that he was on the front line trying to defend kids and innocent people… that makes me feel good,” Khaled said. “Calling him a hero is the least we can do.” Support stories that matter.
