BMW N55 535 Xi 3087 Engine Knock Part 1

Friday afternoon driving from Indiana into Chicago- heading into the loop and the traffic is stop and go- more like stop in between all the trucks, moving like 1 mile in 10-15 minutes. All of a sudden I hear the dreaded engine knock and the car start to stall and then shut down in the middle lane in stop traffic- WTH. My wife face was priceless Trying frantically to restart the car to get to the right lane and hope there is an exit up ahead. After several attempts the car started but consistently shut off.
