Sarah Ashlee Barker’s Victory Over Injury® by Andrews Sports Medicine

At 13 years old, Sarah Ashlee Barker came close to losing her dream of becoming a WNBA player before it ever began. Diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans as an eighth grader at Berry Middle School in Hoover, Alabama, Sarah Ashlee underwent complex knee surgery performed by Dr. Jeffrey Dugas at Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center. After the initial procedure proved unsuccessful, she faced a second invasive surgery and the possibility that she might never fully regain her explosiveness on the basketball court. Through faith, perseverance, family support, and relentless determination, Sarah Ashlee fought her way back — helping lead Spain Park High School girls’ basketball to the 2018 and 2020 AHSAA 7A State Championships before building a legendary collegiate basketball career and ultimately achieving her dream of playing in the WNBA. This is her Victory Over Injury® story.
