Walking Sukhumvit at Night — Phrom Phong to Siam

A long night walk along Sukhumvit Road, moving from Phrom Phong through Asok and onward toward Siam. I wanted to do something special to commemorate the channel reaching a major goal. The walk starts in front of EmQuartier in Phrom Phong, checking out the Chinese New Year decor, then across the BTS platform and down to street level at Emporium. I walked past the fountains at Benchasiri Park and under the neon pink dragon at Emsphere. Did I mention I'm in love with EMDistrict's Chinese New Year overlay? Amazing. I crossed Sukhumvit over to the north side and walked towards Asok. It was a Sunday evening, with twilight settling in as I reached the Asok intersection and Terminal 21. The sidewalks started getting a little more crowded, like you would expect on an Asok evening along Sukhumvit. Everyone was heading to dinner or the bars, and plenty of street vendors were out selling as well. The energy and crowd peak around Sukhumvit 4 Alley in Nana and then dwindled. I used the dedicated crossing bridge just past the Nana intersection to cross back to the southern side of Sukhumvit before passing under the expressway, where Sukhumvit changes names to Ploen Chit Rd. Ploen Chit had a street market under the expressway, but it didn't look like much was open when I came through. We will have to check it out when it's open. I stayed on the south side of Ploen Chit Rd., passing through Ploen Chit and into Chit Lom. There really weren't many other people along this stretch, though I had a motorcycle taxi and a tuktuk stop and ask if I'd like a ride. I must have looked lonely. Just past the Chit Lom BTS station, I checked out the front of Gaysorn Amarin and the Erawan Shrine, watching worshippers leave flowers and incense offerings. I crossed over Ploen Chit Rd just before Ratchadamri Rd. I walked next to Gaysorn Centre and crossed over next to CentralwOrld. There was a Chinese New Year concert going on there as well. Lots of celebrations in the city this evening. Just past Centralworld, I walked along the main wall for Wat Pathum Wanarum, a major Buddhist temple set amongst all of these luxury malls. I still haven't been on the grounds yet, so we will have to return to it as well! It did not take long from this point to reach Siam Paragon and the other malls in the Siam district. I love the neon glow and energy of Siam. I climbed a final set of stairs up to the Siam Skywalk, finding a crowd that was watching the Chinese New Year celebration at MBK Centre. After taking a quick look at the views, I ended the walk with one last shot looking back along Rama I (which started at Sukhumvit Road), thinking about how far I walked. Thanks for watching.
