"Have You Counted the Cost?"- Alan McGill & Ralph Carmichael (1960)
“Have You Counted the Cost?” features the great baritone voice of Alan McGill with Ralph’s “old fashioned” arrangement. This is from their 1960 Sacred Records LP “Songs of the Sawdust Trail,” which was Alan’s best-selling album through the years. It was produced at the request of Sacred Records President Earle Williams to be reminiscent of the old-time Billy Sunday revival meetings (1898-1935). Sawdust covered the ground to keep the dust down, and when those responding to the Gospel invitation went forward to the platform, it was said that they had “walked the sawdust trail,” thus the title of the album.
