Beginning the Engine REASSEMBLY!!! Bottom-End Balancing

Balancing an engine is a crucial part of a rebuild. If you are changing the displacement, changing your pistons, or changing your connecting rods, a balance is essential. The higher the redline, the more important the balancing procedure is. The rev-limiter of the MINI is going to be raised with an aftermarket tune, and with the additional cylinder head modifications, like titanium valve springs, it just makes the crankshaft balance that much more important. Just like when you install new tires on your wheels, you need to follow it up with balancing the entire wheel assembly as one unit. The rims are pretty close to perfectly balanced, the tires are close to perfectly balanced, but any kind of irregularity is going to be compounded. Same thing goes for the engine components. I am doing some prep to my engine components so the machine shop won’t have to do as much work. The more work I can put into the engine, the more money I will be saving. I do not have the equipment to balance the crankshaft, nor do I have the desire to purchase it given the number of times I will be using it. Balancing the pistons and wrist pins are a simple enough task to do myself, which is why I’m bringing you guys along with me to show you the process. ///// LINKS TO THE PRODUCTS SEEN IN THIS VIDEO ///// Digital Scale ▶︎ https://goo.gl/7V6HoY Dremel Kit ▶︎ https://goo.gl/TJ3mwx 1/8” Carbide Bits ▶︎https://goo.gl/Pkxb3H Safety Glasses ▶︎ https://goo.gl/rMqirc Camera Used for this Video ▶︎ https://goo.gl/Tnxgj1 It is very important to ONLY remove the material that is required to balance the components, as every gram of material that is removed, is only going to make these parts weaker. If you do it safely though, you can properly achieve the exact same weight across the board.
