Cochlear Implant Speech Practice: Featuring Words

My journey through a cochlear implant surgery for my asymmetric hearing loss. I am only getting one cochlear implant for my left side. I have had hearing loss since my childhood, and I could not hear on my left side for about 10 years. This video will show some of my speech practice with the cochlear implant. I wear an ear plug on my right ear so that I can focus on listening with only the cochlear implant. I practice at least 30 mins a day to train myself on speech recognition. These practice videos are recorded very shortly after activation day and are the very beginning stages of recognizing sounds. At this stage, everything sounds very quiet and it is difficult to understand words. This is only the beginning of the journey and there is much room for growth and improvement.
