On paper, analysts believe Iran's retaliatory threat is not mere rhetoric, as long-range missiles like the Khorramshahr-4 have a range of 4,000 kilometers, reaching Ukrainian territory. This exceeds Tehran's distance from Kyiv, which is approximately 3,000 kilometers. Iran would also benefit if a conflict between the two countries broke out, as Kyiv lacks a defense system as sophisticated as THAAD or Arrow. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky argued that the target of the attack in the Caspian Sea was a military cargo ship transporting war supplies between Iran and Russia, while accusing Tehran of having previously assisted Moscow by supplying thousands of drones since the beginning of the invasion. Regarding the potential for conflict, Turkiye political observer Aydin Sezer believes Ukraine's move could be a tactic to curry favor and gain additional support from Washington, while also creating a scenario of opening a new front against Iran, which the United States and Israel may secretly desire.
