Project Supermicro 846 Plex Server Build Part 2 - Silencing The Beast
Today we're going to "Silence The Beast" in regards to the obnoxiously loud server cooling fans. The first and easiest part was i didn't order the chassis with the stock power supplies, which are little tornadoes in themselves. Instead I opted to buy a compatible power supply that is part of supermicro's "super quiet" line of power supplies. What takes the most work is ripping out the old fan wall, and replacing it with 3 120mm fans. I used noctua's flagship 120mm fans as they have pretty good static pressure (not the best) but more importantly they have a reputation for reliability. Last we ripped the 2 80mm blowers out of the back wall hot swap chassis, and replaced them with 80mm noctua redux fans (which I already had on my soon to be retired rosewill chassis). Next time we'll be working on the external ascetics of the case. ------------------------------ Mad Electron Engineering with Rick Cullen is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com FTC Disclosure Statement: Some links on this youtube channel may be affiliate links.
