Zululand Camping & MTB, Bonamanzi Game Reserve, Hluhluwe Imfolozi National Park, Mountain Biking

An exciting long weekend safari 4x4, overland in the South African bushveld! Camping at Bonamanzi Private Game Reserve in Hluhluwe, KwaZulu Natal, with private ablutions, large spotted genets, chameleons, elephants, giraffe, nyala having a stand-off, eating at their restaurant. Really, having your own private toilet and shower is really top class! And the birding, out of this world! Self-drive game drives with bird watching, giraffe, zebra, impala and a midday lunch in the company of wild animals. Night times are spent with nyala, bush babies, genets - I mean, it's exceptional!! Then off to the magnificent Hluhluwe Imfolozi National Park for some Big 5 mountain biking. Camping with the Imfolozi Honorary Rangers, bush breakfasts, cycling through Big Five territory, fun with friends. This was a fund-raiser for the Imfolozi Honorary Rangers and they put on such an excellent event! We had safe close encounters with elephant, the helicopter would trace the route each morning to ensure our safety, Honorary Rangers were deployed a couple of hundred meters apart to take care and to cajole us on as we scaled hills and raced through river beds! Honestly - a super event and something definitely to be supported again. All Honorary Ranger events at South African Parks are worth the participation with comradery, excellent food and superb routes within the African bush - where else in the world can you do this type of thing?!
