The Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 9:14-17 At that time, the disciples of John the Baptist came to Jesus and asked, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” Jesus answered them, “How can the wedding guests mourn while the bridegroom is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast. No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch pulls away from the garment, making the tear worse. Neither do people put new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined.
