The children ended up in an orphanage, and after a few years, seven-year-old Serezha was adopted by a well-to-do family who had recently lost a child. Slava used to spend all her time with her younger brother, sharing with him the joys and sorrows of the orphanage, and she couldn't accept the fact that Sergei had started a new life.
