A New Ladakhi Jabro (Shabdro) Song - Kharnak Zangpo

Shabsdro also spelled Jabro is a traditional dance with combination of a repeatative sing along song and rythmic, melodious lute (Gowo) sound and simple foot steps. Shabsdro ( ཞབས་བྲོ།) in Tibetan or Ladakhi means dance of the foot. It is very popular in eastern Ladakh (Jangthang) and Western Tibet. These people are mostly nomads. With the dwindling number of these nonads and partly because of namads' children being send away to bigger cities for education Shabsdro is slowly disapearing from the scene. There are only habdful of artists with no interested future generations to pass on the legacy. To preserve this dying culture we are bringing out a series of Shabsdro songs dedicating them to the late Sherab Dorjee who no doubt is the greatest gowo player of his time. We extend our deepest gratitude to Kharnak Zongpo, a skillful gowo player from Kharnak for helping us take the first ever step of this journey.
