In this video, I share my flight experience on a rare and unique aircraft—the AN-26—operated by Kostroma Aviation Enterprise, flying from Kostroma to St. Petersburg. There are only a few AN-26 planes left in Russia that still carry passengers on their routes. This trip was a spontaneous decision during a business visit to Yaroslavl, and I seized the opportunity to fly on such a vintage aircraft, especially since the flight price was fixed due to government subsidies. My journey began entirely by chance: I found myself in neighboring Yaroslavl and decided to take the chance to visit Kostroma, the gem of the Golden Ring. Within an hour and a half, I had the chance to explore the city’s historic center, stroll through ancient shopping streets, and sample local delicacies like dried mushrooms and cheeses. Next, I headed to Sokerkino Airport, which is technically located in a village on the city’s outskirts but is essentially part of Kostroma. Founded in 1975, Kostroma Airport boasts unique infrastructure and is home to Kostroma Aviation Enterprise. The company’s fleet includes three AN-26 aircraft used for less frequent regional flights. I provide a detailed overview of the registration process, the features of Sokerkino Terminal, and interactions with the airline staff. Flying on the AN-26 was a true aviation adventure. I showcased the aircraft’s cabin, the engine startup process, and the unique controls of this reliable aircraft. The AN-26, first produced in 1969, continues to serve faithfully thanks to the meticulous maintenance by Kostroma Aviation Enterprise. The landing in St. Petersburg was smooth and gentle, despite adverse weather conditions with strong winds. I discuss the taxiing process, takeoff, and descent techniques, as well as onboard safety measures.
