There are places in the Polish landscape whose fate and the events taking place there, as if in a nutshell, bring together the long history of the country. And there are many of them. They stand dignified amidst the landscape of not only large capital cities. They offer a panorama of history in a discreet but clear manner. It is enough to notice them and get to know them better. This is precisely the case with Pułtusk Castle. For almost a thousand years it was a Piast stronghold, a medieval settlement, a bishop's residence, the seat of the partitioning, occupying and Polish authorities. The castle walls have seen kings, emperors, prime ministers, presidents as well as great Polish poets and writers. Let's try to delve into this history to rewrite fragments of our native history through the prism of Pułtusk Castle. Let's try to see how the Piast stronghold has transformed over the millennium to become today the World Centre of the Polish Diaspora, known in Poland and beyond.
