W.H. Auden - Poetry & Faith
I've always loved Auden's poetry, and producing a Sunday TV show with a religion segment was a chance to feature some of his most interesting work - read movingly, and with such insight, by the wonderful Juliet Stevenson. The whole programme was presented by the former Secretary of State for Culture, Chris Smith and in the second and third parts we went on to feature T.S. Eliot and Philip Larkin. Chris and I later produced a documentary on Emily Bronte for Channel 5 (extract on this channel) and had wanted to make a programme about Wordsworth, the subject of his PHD. Sadly we haven't managed that - yet! Richard Holloway, formerly the Bishop of Edinburgh, gave us fascinating insights into Auden's poetry, informed by his own interesting spiritual journey, documented movingly in the many books he's published. Auden's poetry can be found in the many collections published by Faber & Faber If I can manage to digitise parts two and three I promise to post them!
