David Burnett - Photojournalist

Growing up in Salt Lake City, David Burnett, like many of his contemporaries, worked on the high school yearbook where he learned the basics of shooting and the darkroom. He attended Colorado College (BA 1968 Political Science) and had a summer internship with TIME Magazine, for whom he worked for nearly fifty years. He spent two years covering the war in Vietnam, joined the weekly LIFE Magazine, and when LIFE closed, worked for the French news agency GAMMA, before starting Contact Press Images with editor Robert Pledge in 1975. For the last five decades he has worked for magazines in the US and Europe, and hopes to compile a series of essays, both written and photographic, in the next year. After 10 years, the "i3: Images, Ideas, Inspiration" lecture series continues to features leading photographers, artists, editors, gallerists and industry experts. This spring, faculty member, Pulitzer Prize winning photo editor, and consultant Stella Kramer is the guest curator and host. Presented by MPS Digital Photography.
