Song of the Samurai Episode 5 Review: The Death Pillar - Epic Bloody Battle & Cliffhanger! | HBO Max

Happy Monday, friends! Today on The Nerdy Ronin we’re taking a look at Song of the Samurai Episode 5 – “The Death Pillar.” After a couple of shorter, talk-heavy episodes, this one finally delivers the action we’ve been waiting for. It’s bloody, brutal, and beautifully shot — easily one of the strongest episodes so far. The Shinsengumi set up an epic trap against overwhelming odds, and what follows is a well-choreographed ballet of violence with some of the best CGI blood I’ve seen in the series. The cinematography and fight direction are fantastic, and it ends on a solid cliffhanger right in the middle of the battle. Even though I’m still recovering from shoulder surgery and dealing with a lot of pain today, I had to talk about this one because it’s that good.
