Cylinder Valve Grinding (Lapping) - Step by Step - The key is to listen to the grind

Here's a video on refreshing a couple of Yamaha Virago xv750 heads that are headed up to Vermont for a bike rebuild. As seen in the video, when a motor has sat around for years, the valves and valve seats can get slightly damaged or covered in carbon and may cause a low compression condition when the motor is being brought back to life. The process is really easy to lap the valves and seats, but care needs to be taken to follow a few key steps so they aren't over ground or not polished back. The video goes step by step as well as shows how to remove the valves from the head using a simple tool. Since I have an Amazon Associates account, I added a link to the Grinding Compound I use, but you can also get it a some of the local Auto Parts Stores
